Norman Wells RCMP investigate after body found floating in Lennie Lake

Norman Wells RCMP are investigating after the discovery of what appears to be a deceased person floating in Lennie Lake, about 35 kilometres north of Norman Wells.

Police state in a news release that the call came in at about 1:15 pm on Monday.

They add that RCMP and the NWT Coroner Service attended the site and retrieved the body.

The identity of the deceased person has not yet been confirmed, and remains part of an on-going investigation, police stated.

They have not identified the gender of the deceased.

Darren Whiteman, 20, who had been reported missing, was last seen at his family’s cabin on Lennie Lake last September.

A post-mortem examination has been ordered as the RCMP continue to work together with the Coroner’s office on this investigation.

At this time no further information is available for release.
