Dettah man killed in traffic accident near Revelstoke, B.C.

Family and friends are mourning the tragic death of a Dettah man who was killed last weekend in a two-vehicle, head-on crash near the mountain town of Revelstoke, in south-central British Columbia.

Messages of condolence have been posted on social media for Paul Baillargeon, 50.

RCMP stated in an email to CKLB that police and emergency services responded just after 9:00 am Saturday to a fatal collision on Highway 1 – the Trans-Canada Highway – about 30 kilometres east of Revelstoke, in an area known as Albert Canyon.

Police state that upon arrival it was determined that a trailer of a westbound transport truck had collided with an east-bound pickup truck.

Baillargeon, the driver of the pickup truck, died as a result of the crash.

His female passenger was taken to hospital with serious injuries, police stated.

Police have not officially released any names.

They say the transport truck driver was not injured.

RCMP state that at this time, driving too fast for conditions is being considered as a contributing factor, as the roads were wet and it was raining at the time.

There is some indication that the trailer may have somehow crossed the centre line but that has yet to be confirmed.

Funeral services have yet to be announced.
