Fort Liard man was not killed by bear, says coroner

A man whose body was found near Fort Liard earlier this month was not killed by a bear.

That information was confirmed Wednesday in a news release from Cathy Menard, the Chief Coroner of the Northwest Territories.

She adds that autopsy results have not yet been received and a cause of death has yet to be officially confirmed.

Floyd Diamond’C was found dead on May 8 in Big Creek by a family member who had gone to check on him.

Mr. Diamond’C, who has a cabin in the area, was last seen on April 24.

A spokesperson from the territorial government’s Department of Environment and Natural Resources (ENR) told CKLB that wildlife officers put down at least one bear that was in the area where the body was found.

The coroner service, with help from RCMP and ENR, continue to investigate.

CKLB as well as the coroner service extend condolences to the Diamond’C family.
