Yellowknife resident announces she’s running for MLA in city’s Kam Lake riding.

And then there were three.
Caitlin Cleveland has announced that she intends to run for MLA in Kam Lake in this fall’s territorial election.

In a Facebook post, she states that as a photographer she has spent the last 15 years connecting with northerners about what matters to us: our people, our land and our future.

“My experience as a Kam Lake entrepreneur paired with my years as a senior policy analyst and communications officer for the GNWT gives me a unique perspective to both the challenges of operating a northern business and the inner working of our government,” Cleveland posted. “As a lifelong northerner and now a parent, I have a vested interest in the success and quality of life of all our people and the sustainability of our land as we push our economy beyond diamond mines. Our need for social change continues to grow as our current economy requires innovation and expansion. The only way to truly accomplish this is together. I live here. I work here. And I want to work hard for the people of Kam Lake and the North as we, together, write the next chapter for the NWT. Let’s start a new story.”

Cleveland will be up against Kieron Testart, the current Kam Lake MLA and former Yellowknife Centre MLA Robert Hawkins.
