Canada Council for the Arts Touring North

Increasing funding for artists in the North, and debunking the myth of applying to bureaucrats, and appealing to fellow artists, that’s the message the Canadian Council for the arts CEO is bringing to all three Territories this month.

Simon Brault is in Yellowknife this week, fresh of the trail from Yukon doing a pan-northern tour.

“I came north four years ago. It was the beginning of my mandate as the leader of the Canada Council. Since then Canada Council tripled its investment in the arts in Yukon and Nunavut, and he hopes to get more investments into the NWT too,” Brault told CKLB.

He will be holding an informal meeting at the Prince of Wales, Northern Heritage Museum this evening at 7pm.  Julie Dobbin the program officer for Creating, Knowing and Sharing: The Arts and Cultures of First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples, will also be attending the sessions.  She will be available afterwards to answer any questions Indigenous artists and arts organizations may have about the program. NWT Board member and former Executive Director of NACC, Ben Nind will also be on hand, and be available for questions.

Brault will wrap up his summer Northern tour in Iqaluit on August 22nd.
