Yellowknife RCMP say one man has been charged and another man was sent to hospital following an attack in the city’s downtown core on Tuesday night.
According to an RCMP news release, officers responded about 9:30 pm to a reported assault in the area of 50 Avenue and 50 Street.
Upon arrival police say they found a man with non-life threatening wounds.
He was transported by ambulance to hospital for treatment.
The man has not been publicly identified.
Shortly afterwards police say they arrested a suspect at his residence without incident.
Christopher Cook, 34, is in custody and is charged with possession of a dangerous weapon and aggravated assault.
He was to appear in court Wednesday afternoon.
Police have not said what the weapon was or exactly how the victim was hurt.
The motive for the alleged attack is not clear.
“At this point, the incident does not appear to be random in nature and the RCMP does not believe there is a concern for public safety. The investigation is ongoing,” police state.
