Man from Nunavut charged after NSCC corrections officer attacked, sent to hospital

The RCMP in Yellowknife have charged a Nunavut man with assaulting a peace officer after a corrections officer was attacked at the North Slave Correctional Complex (NSCC) last month.

Police state it happened mid-afternoon on May 28 and the male victim, whom they haven’t identified, went to Stanton Territorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

It’s not clear exactly where in the facility the assault took place or the motive behind it.

Jorden Charlie, 19, is to appear in a Yellowknife court on August 9.

It’s also not clear what he was in jail for in the first place.

Charlie remains in custody.
