Intranasal Naloxone is now available in clinics, pharmacies, health centres and hospitals in all 33 communities in the Northwest Territories.
Naloxone is used to counteract the effects of an opioid overdose in emergency situations.
While injectable Naloxone kits have been available since 2016. The new kits include a nasal spray. According to the Department of Health and Social Services, the nasal spray is easier to use in case of emergency.
The department says about 675 Naloxone kits have been distributed across the NWT since 2016.
The new kits can be obtained anonymously and for free.
Here’s a list of where to get a kit in each community, and instructions on how to use it.
