Woman arrested after flowers uprooted from downtown planters; charges pending

A 34-year-old woman has been arrested after dozens, if not hundreds of flowers were uprooted from downtown planters in Yellowknife Thursday night.

According to an email from RCMP, they received a report about 11:10 pm of alleged vandalism to planters on Franklin Avenue.

Photos circulating on social media show the flowers strewn across the sidewalk from the Scotia Centre to the Royal Bank.

Comments on social media indicate that the public is outraged that someone would do such a thing, ruining other people’s efforts to beautify the downtown.

Police have not named the suspect but say charges are pending.

They don’t say what she will be charged with, but a public mischief charge is possible.
