Family and friends are mourning the death of a 29-year-old Inuvik man who was killed when the all-terrain-vehicle (ATV) he was driving rolled on a trail in the community.
A spokesperson from the Northwest Territories Coroner’s office says RCMP were called to the scene about 5:30 Saturday morning.
She adds it happened on the trail that runs to the town’s cemetery and that a male passenger was able to escape with only minor injuries.
The victim was declared dead at the scene and his body has been sent to Edmonton for an autopsy to try to determine the exact cause of death, the spokesperson said.
His name has not been released.
It’s unclear whether either man was wearing a helmet.
According to an email from RCMP, Mounties in Inuvik are assisting the coroner’s office in its investigation.
