RCMP look for suspect after serious, brazen, broad daylight assault in Old Town Yellowknife

Yellowknife RCMP say they are is looking for the public’s help to identify a suspect in a “serious,” brazen, assault that happened in broad daylight more than a month ago..

Police state in a news release issued Friday that about 6:25 pm on Saturday, July 13, Yellowknife RCMP received a call for service regarding an assault on Franklin Avenue near the NWT Brewery, in Old Town.

When they arrived on scene, police state that they discovered a man had received injuries after being assaulted by a suspect who had then fled the scene.

Police say the victim was walking on the sidewalk when he came across the suspect, riding a bike on the sidewalk.

An exchange of words turned into an argument and, without warning, the suspect assaulted the victim before fleeing the scene, Mounties state.

Police say the victim was transported by Medevac for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect is described as 6 ft / 182 cm, with a wide muscular build and blond buzz cut.

Video surveillance captured an image matching the suspect in the area at the time, and RCMP are hoping someone from the public may recognize the individual.

RCMP have not said why they waited so long to report the incident.
