A woman has been rescued safely after she got lost hiking north of Yellowknife on Ranney Hill Trail, near Vee Lake Road, off the Ingraham Trail.
According to an RCMP news release, the 38-year-old woman was found last night in that area by a police dog.
Police say she was hiking the trail alone and after being disoriented and because darkness was settling in, she could not find her way out.
They add that she called a friend for help, who redirected the request for assistance to the RCMP.
“At approximately 9:07 pm on Wednesday, September 18, Yellowknife RCMP received a call for service regarding a lost hiker on Ranney Hill Trail, in the area of Vee Lake Road,” the release states. “A 38-year-old woman was hiking the trail alone. After being disoriented and because the darkness was settling in, she could not find her way out. She called a friend for help, who redirected the request for assistance to the RCMP.”
Mounties state officers, with the assistance of NT RCMP Police Dog Service, went out to Vee Lake Road where the dog located the woman.
“We are thankful we found the hiker safe and sound. RCMP would like to remind people to always tell a friend or family member where you are going and ideally, to not go out alone. Also, make sure you dress appropriately for the weather and carry a communication device” states Staff Sergeant Yannick Hamel, Operations Manager for Yellowknife RCMP.”
Police have not identified the woman but say she is a local.
