A trial is now underway in Yellowknife for a Ndilo man, accused of sexually assaulting a woman and forcibly confining her while he was out on bail for the exact same offences.
Peter Tsetta, 50, is accused of attacking both women in 2017.
At least two women’s advocates in the city were outraged at the time after they heard about the second offence.
They said that a justice of the peace had no business granting Tsetta bail in the first place due to the seriousness of his alleged crimes.
They were also upset because Yellowknife RCMP stated before the alleged repeat offences that Tsetta was not a threat to public safety.
Police did warn the public not to approach him in a news release asking the public for help in finding him.
Tsetta has a long criminal history, including convictions for violent crimes.
His second alleged victim was on the witness stand on Monday.
She choked up as she testified about the attack at Tsetta’s home where she estimated he assaulted her as many as ten times over a two to three hour period.
Tsetta currently remains in custody at the North Slave Correctional Complex (NSCC) where he has been since he allegedly re-offended in June of 2017.
He is being tried by a judge alone in Supreme Court.
