Charges pending after windows smashed at mall in Hay River

A 55-year-old man is facing charges after 11 windows were smashed at the Godwin Mall in Hay River.

RCMP stated in an email to CKLB that they received multiple complaints about a man smashing exterior windows from outside the mall just before 7:00 on Friday night.

Police state that with the public’s assistance, a suspect was quickly identified and subsequently arrested near the scene.

Mounties state that the man was transported to the Hay River Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries allegedly sustained while the windows were being smashed.

It’s unclear what if any motive the man had for the vandalism.

He faces a charge of mischief over $5,000 and has been released for a court apperarance in November.

His name has not been released.
