Yellowknife RCMP investigate two suspicious vehicle fires from over the weekend

Yellowknife RCMP are investigating after two vehicle fires early Saturday morning that police have deemed suspicious.

In a news release, RCMP state that the fires occurred at about 2:30 in the morning near Con Road.

Police state the vehicles were in the parking lot of the Aurora Heights apartment building and both vehicles were engulfed in flames when officers arrived.

Firefighters attended and quickly extinguished the fire.

Police believe the fires were intentionally set but they don’t say why they think that.

It’s also not clear how much damage was done to the vehicles.

RCMP say a man wearing blue jeans and a black hoodie was seen fleeing the area.

They add a police dog was unable to track him down.

There were no injuries.

“Yellowknife RCMP are encouraging anyone who may have noticed something in the area of Con Road early Saturday morning to come forward,” states Staff Sergeant Yannick Hamel, Operations Manager for Yellowknife RCMP.
